St Mary Moorfields in Eldon Street, between Moorgate and Liverpool Street station, is the only Catholic church in The City. Anyone is welcome, either to come in to pray or to just find a peaceful place away from the business and stresses of life. The church opens each day at 6.45am and closes at 6.45 pm. The parish priest is Canon Peter Newby, a former Catholic chaplain to the University of Oxford. Before becoming a priest he trained as an architect and also worked as an antiquarian bookseller.
